Brownstone NYC Empowers Community to Help Face Gentrification

Due to rapid gentrification, numerous minority home owners are under the threat of losing their homes and being pushed out of neighborhoods where they have lived for more than 30 years to 40 years.

As a service to the community, Schelton Assoumou, a Harvard Business School graduate, former JP Morgan Chase Executive, Brownstone NYC’ s Managing Director, is on a crusade to help home owners protect their properties from aggressive investors who use enticing but often dubious and not always ethical techniques.

In order to reach a maximum number of home owners, Brownstone NYC and Schelton have been hosting ‘Real Estate knowledge workshops’ on the topic of ‘Gentrification without displacement’.

The most recent Workshop was held on September 15 th 2019 in Bedford Stuyvesant for twelve (12) homeowners from the Pulaski Block Association.

Homeowners received precious information and knowledge that will help them navigate the intricacies of real estate development and financing. Topics covered included:

  • Foreclosure resolution
  • Home improvement
  • Refinancing options
  • Violations removal
  • Selling to Investors
  • Joint Ventures

The event was sponsored by the Pulaski & Marcy Avenues Association in Bedford- Stuyvesant.

The next workshop will be held in Crown Heights and East New York in November 2019. For more information about booking Brownstone NYC or Schelton as a speaker, visit
